Scaling and Root Planing
The procedure of deep cleaning, known as scaling and root planing, consists of two phases. The first step is scaling when we remove all the plaque and tartar above and below the gumline. Next, we will then begin root planing, smoothing out your teeth roots to help your gums reattach to your teeth and help to prevent future buildups. Scaling and root planing may take more than one visit to complete and may require a local anesthetic.
Dental Crown Lengthening
Dental Crown lengthening is when your periodontist extends the height or size of the portion of the tooth that is visible above the gum line to create more stability for the crown. When your tooth has broken down or when tooth decay is below the gum line, crown lengthening can reduce the gum tissue and bone level in order to gain better access to the affected tooth. Crown lengthening can also be used to create a more attractive smile showing off more of the natural tooth and a more even gum line.
