What Does Medicaid Insurance Cover For Chicago Families?

Medicaid insurance plans provide comprehensive dental coverage for eligible parents and their children. Patients can receive preventive and restorative care under their Medicaid plan. Medicaid is segemneted out based on whether or not the patient is above the age of 21. For patients younger than 21, medicaid provides coverage for two cleanings per year (one each six months), two oral exams per year, two fluoride treatments per year, dental sealants, fillings, crowns, root canals, tooth extractions, and emergency dental services. For patients older than 21, only one cleaning is covered yearly. Likewise, patients can receive one set of preventive dental x-rays each year. There are also limitations on root canals, dentures, and oral surgery.

How Does Medicaid Dental Insurance Work in Chicago?

Insurance can often be a complex system with prior-authorizations, in vs out of network providers, deductibles, and co-pays. It is important to always check the specifics of your benefits and coverage and either talk with your insurance provider or your medical provider to get a clear understanding of what will and won’t be covered. In terms of Medicaid, patients need to see an in-network provider. This means you need to find a dental office like ours that works with Medicaid and other insurance providers. Medicaid is often managed through a health plan like Blue Cross Comunnity Health, Aetna Better Health, Molina, or Meridian. That said, typically dental benefits are processed by DentaQuest. For most plans you do not need a referral, but simply need to find an in-network provider. But as we mentioned earlier, some treatments like root canals for adults are treated on a case-by-case basis. This may include getting prior authorization before coverage kicks in.

How Do You Pay For Dental Treatments if You Don't Insurance

If you don’t have insurance, or if your plan does not cover members of your family, there are still options. Here at Dental Town Chicago we provide financing plans and payment plans that include general dental care and other benefits. Our Image Card Membership Program (see details below) is a yearly option for getting preventive dental care for you and your family. If someone in your family doesn’t have coverage or their coverage doesn’t include something you need, this system can help. Otherwise, there are also financing options that can help patients pay for treatments over time. Financing solutions are often not as restrictive as dental insurance and sometimes are used for treatments that aren’t otherwise covered.
